An Open Letter to my Daughter on her First Day of School

Today is my daughter's first day of school. Well, to be more precise, it's her first day of school as a teacher. Today she starts her new career - a dream she's held on to since she was a child.  It's so exciting to see her realize her dream and it's especially rewarding for me since she's teaching in the same district I work in. So, today I share with you, my readers, my letter to her on this momentous day.

My dearest Ariana,
Today is your second "first day of school." First, and foremost, I have tell you just how proud I am of you - of the fact that you're a teacher now, of the wonderful young lady you've become, and of all the wonderful work I've already seen you do as you've prepared for this school year.

It seems like only yesterday that your mom and I dropped you off at Coker Elementary for your first day of school. When we dropped you off, we gave you three simple pieces of advice to help you in your new journey...

Friday Freebie: Have Some Storybot Fun with Your PreK and Kinder Kids!

I have to give Kudos to one of our new PreK teachers in the district for telling me about today's great free site. (The fact that the new PreK teacher happens to be my daughter has nothing to do with it!)

Today's Friday Freebie is a great site for early elementary teachers. Storybots ( makes learning fun for parents and kids. The entire suite of tools from Storybots includes 40 videos, 30 books, 104 activities sheets, and iOS 9 apps!

Storybots saves all your uploaded photos to make this process easy for you. The resulting videos and interactive books are tons of fun. (Storybots was created by the same creators of JibJab, the popular site that allows you to "elf yourself" at Christmas time.)

The apps are great also! They include a coin flipper, videos, a great…

On Fridays, when I post my Friday Freebie's, I'm often stuck trying to find tools that will be NEW and exciting for you all. Sometimes, I want to share a tool and think, "Everyone knows about that one already. It would be silly to blog about that one!" But, I've learned that's not always the case.
Today, is one of those days. HaikuDeck, a presentation creation tool has been around for a while and a lot of people are using it, but it's so cool and so powerful it bears repeating. So, if you're already using HaikuDeck, bear with me. If you've never heard of it, you're in for a treat.
What is it? From the HaikuDeck website, the tool is best described as... "a completely new kind of presentation software designed to make your slides stunning. Whether you are pitching an idea, teaching a lesson, delivering a keynote, or igniting a movement, Haiku Deck makes presentations simple, beautiful, and fun." And that's exactly what it does. No…
